Portland’s Paws Owner

I have been working in the dog walking and pet sitting industry for the past 3½ years. I began this venture in Boston working for an amazing company, Boston Pet Sitters. Following that, I moved to Portland with my husband Mark and dog Courage to start Portland’s Paws. I grew up in New Hampshire and Vermont. I attended Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, and after school moved to Boston, Massachusetts to teach. After teaching for a year I traveled around the world through Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, New Zealand, and Fiji before returning to Maine for the summer and Boston for the following year. I worked in Boston for two more years managing the Patagonia retail store before meeting my now husband and moving to the Virgin Islands to work on private charter boats. We rescued Courage in the VI and whisked her away back to Boston the following year. That brings us to the present and back to Portland’s Paws, the greatest job I have ever had! Thank you for visiting our site, and for considering our services. |

I am a full time student at USM studying History and Political Science. I was born in San Francisco, but grew up on the coast of Maine. I love to spend time outdoors, especially in the summer! I have a 3 year old Basenji named Brodie that goes with me on my walks most days. I really enjoy spending time with dogs because they are always happy and ready to have fun. I think what is so special about dogs and their companionship is that no matter what kind of day I am having they always put a smile on my face.

I was born and raised in Sanford, Maine. I have three sisters and one brother. I have my Associate’s in Fashion Illustration and a Bachelor’s in Media Studies. I have lived in Georgia, Wyoming, and Washington State. I hope to write a novel before I turn 50. I hope someday to win an Oscar, for dog walking. I very much enjoy time to walk, hike, bike, dance, read, write for Portland’s Paws blog, and watch movies, most of which I do with my fiancé, Scott, and my Olde English Bull Dogge, Gabby Mae. Gabby’s picture is in the Bracket Street Vet brochure, she was 8 weeks old and only 13 pounds! She now weighs 63 pounds! In addition to Portland’s Paws I work as a waitress and bartender at Fuji Restaurant. I work for Portland’s Paws because I love dogs and Gabby!

I have a varied career due to my short attention span. I’ve worked as a mascot, nonprofit program coordinator, US Census Bureau surveyor, bouncer, and anything else that comes along that promises adventure. I took on dog walking and pet sitting for my love of animals and exercise. Eventually, I’d like to add "astronaut," "spy," or "major league baseball player" to my resume. I am an obsessive environmentalist, and I like sturdy, yet hip shoes. I was born in Texas, raised in New York, and yet consider myself a Mainer. Somewhere in there was a college education. "Give a dog a fish and you will feed him for a day. Teach a dog to fish and there will be chaos."

I grew up in North Kingstown, RI and came to Maine in 1999 to attend St. Joseph’s College. I graduated in 2003 with a BA in Communications, concentration in Multimedia. I have been living in Portland since graduating and currently work for a small printing and mailing company in the Riverside Business Park. I love helping out Portland’s Paws by house sitting on weekends… due to my own crazy schedule I don’t have enough time to have my own dog, so I very much enjoy taking care of yours!

I am from Grand Isle, Vermont. I have gone to school for a couple of different things, my first degree is in Travel and Tourism from Champlain College, and my second degree is in Horse Management and Production from The Ohio State University. I also have a class B commercial driver's license and I am a certified medical transcriptionist (which is what I do part time right now). I have been farm-sitting/pet-sitting for a good five years now. I also have a horse, his name is Plato and he is the highlight of my life. Thanks for checking out my bio and Portland's Paws, and I hope to meet you and your pet(s)!
